Andrés Ramírez General Coordinator of the Mexican Commission for Refugee Assistance (Comar) defined “Haitians come to Mexico for economic reasons, but do not meet any of the criteria that could qualify them as refugees, however, they go to the Mexican Commission for Refugee Assistance (Comar) because they see no other option” including “Given the situation in Haiti, it would be inhumane to send them back, although without refugee status they cannot stay in Mexico, that is why we must look for alternatives.”
